Common Chives

Description

Allium schoenoprasum

This perennial species is called common chives and grows in clumps to 20 cm tall with many grass like hollow stems. There is no bulb as for onions. The stems and round headed flowers are edible and can be chopped up and used in salads and fish and egg dishes. They grow best in rich moist soil and are happy in either full sun or dappled shade. Suitable for all locations.
