Common Sage

Salvia officinalis

This is the common sage much used in cooking. It reaches 70 cm in size and with age becomes shrub like making an attractive garden plant with its grey foliage and blue/mauve flowers. Also grows well in a container. Best sited in full sun or dappled shade in rich, moist well drained soil. The most common culinary use is for sage and onion stuffing for poultry dishes but can also be used in other meat dishes. 1,000 to 2,500 m.
