This is a very tall fast growing deciduous tree that can grow to 35 m tall and because of its handsome timber and over exploitation have become endangered. It is therefore important to encourage more planting of this attractive species. Leaf fall generally occurs in the dry season and lasts for 4 to 6 weeks before the new leaf appears. Should be grown where rainfall is above 1,000 mm per year. Suitable for altitudes between 1,300 and 2,300 m.
