Description

Millettia dura

A very attractive deciduous tree when in flower in October/November bearing lilac/purplish flowers similar in colour to jacaranda but better because it is indigenous and not a greedy feeder. Is quite fast growing and can reach 12 m in height. The flowering is followed by long hanging seed pods which open with a crack during hot afternoons in February, scattering the seeds. Suitable for areas between 1.200 and 2,300 m.
